Slip
Slip is the difference between the actual speed of an induction motor and the speed, which is the speed at which a similarly wound synchronous motor would run. For instance, the slip of a motor turning 1760 RPM would be 1800 - 1760 = 40 RPM. The slip is dependent on the load on the motor, greater loads producing more slip, and hence lower speeds.
